Strange, but Interesting
When I was building with 3 Bs in 1955 & 56, we would go golfing on Wednesdays at different golf courses. We got to be friends with the bartender at the Hickory Hills Golf course and he taught us how to make Tom Collins'. I loved them.
Anyhow, June and Ronnie Irving worked for us and Ron invited Mom and I to go to his cottage on Devils Lake for the weekend, June 29 to July 1, 1956.
I made a thermos of Tom Collins' which I drank on the way.
Because Ronnie was driving his car, by the time we got there, I was 3/4 in the bag. That day 2 planes crashed into the Grand Canyon.
They were the first large crashes in the history of commercial air flight: June 30th, 1956.
That night Bob was conceived.
We heard about it the next day, (the crash). We went to a restaurant at the Dells and we were talking about the crash when the waitress put a small bowl of what we thought was chocolate ice cream on the table.
I asked why the chocolate ice cream? She told us it was paté. Never heard of paté.
Now, I love it.
Anyhow, that's not why I remember that weekend.
